South Carolina State Guard

"The Best Kept Secret in South Carolina"

Media Relations

Mission

Media Relations fulfills the Guard's obligation to keep South Carolinians and the Guard informed, and helps to establish the conditions that lead to confidence in South Carolina's Defense Force and its readiness to conduct operations in peacetime, conflict and disaster.

What We Do

The State Guard's Media Relations Unit  is focused on bringing positive media coverage to the State Guard and the involvement of the Guard in its missions. Since the Guard lacks name recognition in our State, it is vital to promote the benefits of a well-trained, ready Force that strengthens the Homeland.

With troop levels being stressed to fight the War on Terror, the State Guard's mission becomes even more critical. Whether our role is to be redefined or jurisdiction broadened is not clear, the State Guard is likely to serve in an expanded capacity.

Representation in state government is an absolute "must" since laws are presented and passed, everyday. Bills that could potentially impact the State Guard are on the floor right now. If our role is to be redefined, any influence we have with lawmakers now, is a benefit. This is the primary reason in forming the Media Relations Unit.

We look forward to putting the State Guard in a positive light and helping form policy that promotes recruiting and retention.

We are proud to serve our communities and State.
