Mission

At the direction of the Adjutant General, develop and maintain organized resourced elements of the South Carolina Military Department to support administratively, logistically, and environmentally, all military operations as required. At the direction of the Governor, through SC EPD, SAD, and the SC State Guard, deliver a fully capable level of preparedness and response to protect the lives and property of the people of South Carolina during times of emergency.


 

State Guard Commander

Nelson C. Lacy commands the South Carolina State Guard in its mission to provide internal security, disaster relief, and protection from civil disorder. The State Guard serves under The Adjutant General of South Carolina, Major General Stanhope Spears, as a vital arm of the Military Department of South Carolina.

Tax Exemption Available for State Guardsmen

State Guardsmen are entitled to a $3,000 State Tax Exemption provided that, at least, 192 hours of service have been performed. Additionally, mileage is deductible on both Federal and State  filings. Forms for documenting time and mileage are available and must be approved through the proper chain of command. More details here...
